Hal Saflieni Hypogeum
This unique monument is enshrined in the UNESCO World Heritage
list. To ensure its conservation, the site’s microclimate
is strictly regulated. For this reason, the site is open to
a maximum of 80 visitors each day. A tour of the site starts
with a brief introductory exhibition and multilingual audio-visual
film focusing on the temple building peoples and the Hypogeum’s
relationship to Malta’s temple sites.
From Monday to Sunday seven tours will be conducted, starting
on the hour from 9.00 till 16.00 (last tour). There is no
tour at 12.00.
To plan your sightseeing, we advise that you book ahead as
tours are often full up to weeks in advance. For your convenience,
you can use our new online booking (read below). Tickets for
the Hypogeum are also available in person from the Hypogeum
visitor centre in Paola and from the National Museum of Archaeology
in Valletta.

Last minute tickets are only available for the 12:00 noon
tour at a fixed price of €20 - Lm 8.59. Tickets are sold
on a first come first served basis and can only be bought
from the Hypogeum on the same day of visit.

Sites Temporarily or Partially
Closed
The National Museum of Archaeology, Valletta - the extensive
prehistoric section is fully open to the public on the ground
floor. Work is currently in progress on the permanent exhibition
of the top floor which will include the Bronze Age, Phoenician,
Punic, Roman, Byzantine and Medieval sections.
The Ghajn Tuffieha Roman Baths - currently closed to the
public due to conservation problems. A project is currently
being planned for this site and funds are already being sought
internationally.
The Salina Catacombs, Salina - currently closed to the public
due to conservation matters.
Tas-Silg, Marsaxlokk - currently closed to the public due
to on going excavations.
San Pawl Milqi, Burmarrad - though not fully accessible,
can still be visited and the site may be viewed from the church
gallery. The site is, however, open only by appointment.
Abbatija Tad Dejr, Rabat - currently undergoing conservation
and restoration services through a joint collaborative project
between Heritage Malta and Din L Art Helwa. The site will
open to the public in the immediate future.
The National Museum for the Maltese Language, Vittoriosa
- currently undergoing initial planning stages.
