Membership Cards:

The introduction of Membership Cards is intended to increase the number and frequency of visits to our museum and sites by local and foreign patrons.

First of all, in keeping with Heritage Malta’s remit, mission and objectives, it is important to devise ways of creating a greater awareness among the Maltese public of the vast cultural, historical, architectural and archaeological wealth waiting to be discovered by the citizens of these islands. This increased awareness will serve to create a true sense of national pride, ensure a collective social conscience about the importance of viewing our heritage as a potential source of material wealth for the nation and an heirloom that must be passed on to future generations in an optimal state of preservation.

Secondly, HM should aim at encouraging greater numbers of individual foreign visitors to frequent its museums and sites during their stay in Malta by offering a cost effective admission system. For this reason, Heritage Malta launched two basic membership cards, one for individual patrons and one for family groups. In addition, Heritage Malta will also be looking at ways of increasing corporate patronage for its various initiatives.

Heritage Malta was set up by an act of Parliament on the 1st January 2003 as the official government agency responsible for the management, conservation and promotion of Malta’s national museums, heritage sites and collections. One of the main functions of Heritage Malta is to make cultural heritage more accessible to the general public. It also has to upgrade the presentation and interpretation of all cultural heritage entrusted to its care, and to ensure its conservation. Heritage Malta is therefore the effective guardian of a very important part of the Maltese national identity, and the most important actor in the field of cultural tourism, a vital pillar of the Maltese economy.

Heritage Malta is proud to introduce an annual Membership Scheme for Adult Individuals, Senior Citizens and Family Groups, giving unlimited access to its museums and sites, with the exception that access to the Hal Saflieni Hypogeum shall be by appointment and at a reduced fee as listed in the benefits below. This scheme is intended to encourage the general public to make frequent visits to our museums and sites in order to better acquaint themselves, at their leisure, with our rich history and heritage which, for Malta’s small size, is uniquely blessed with such variety and wealth as to make it the envy of the world. The Membership Scheme is also intended to facilitate the education of our younger generations, instilling in them a sense of national pride and good citizenship from an early age.

Our vision at Heritage Malta is to share our pride and joy in our national treasures with each and every one of you. Our national heritage, which includes seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites, belongs to us all, and we share a common responsibility not only to look after it but also to share in its appreciation by learning as much as we can about it.

Individual Membership Cards:

The card shall entitle the holder to the following benefits:

• Heritage Malta Membership Card
• Free, unrestricted entry for the holder to all Heritage Malta Museums and sites for one calendar year. (except the Hal Saflieni Hypogeum)
• Special discount of 50% for tickets to Hal Saflieni Hypogeum
• Discounts and special offers on purchases made in Heritage Malta museum shops.
• Regular subscription to the Heritage Malta magazine.
• Invitation to all Heritage Malta’s public lectures.
• Information via email on all public events organised by Heritage Malta
• 50% discount on entry tickets to special exhibitions organised by Heritage Malta. (Heritage Malta will also continue to organise Temporary Exhibitions for the general public at no charge)
• Entitlement to special offers made by Heritage Malta from time to time.

Prices:

• €27.95 - Lm 12 annually for Adult Members between the ages of 18 and 59
• €18.63 - Lm 8 annually for Junior Members under the age of 18
• €18.63 - Lm 8 annually for Senior Members over the age of 60
• €46.59 - Lm 20 annually for Family Membership Card

• Membership Cards may only be used by those in whose name the card has been issued and whose personal details and/or photo appear on the card.
• Membership Cards are valid for twelve months from the date of issue and may be renewed upon expiry.
• Membership Cards may not be transferred to third parties.
• Holders of Membership Cards may, where deemed necessary, be requested to present their ID Cards or some other form of identification by Heritage Malta museum staff.
• The card is valid for normal museum visits only and does not entitle user to free audio guide services where available. A separate ticket just for the audio guide service may be purchased from the respective museum ticket counter.

Family Membership Cards:

This scheme is open to family groups. Under the terms of this scheme, a family group shall be composed of the parents (or parent in the case of single parent families) plus children under 18 years of age bearing the same family name and residing at the same postal address. The Family Membership Card entitles the family members to the benefits listed below and may be used as follows:

a) As a whole family unit.
b) By the parents as couples or as individuals.
c) By the children as individuals provided they are over 12 and under 18 years of age and whose names are registered on the Family Membership Card
