Digitisation of Cultural Heritage

Heritage Malta has been entrusted to be Malta's representative on the National Representatives Group - a steering group from EU Member States and Associated Countries for the activities related to the co-ordination of digitisation policies and programmes, with special emphasis on cultural and scientific resources and on the contribution of public cultural institutions. Its stated mission is to monitor progress regarding the objectives encapsulated in the Lund Principles. The NRG has several initiatives and projects running, the most prestigious of this is the Minerva Network (MInisterial NEtwoRk for Valorising Activities in Digitisation) which has been funded by the 6th Framework programme under the Information Society Technologies Area.

Malta's representation has been entrusted to Antoinette Caruana, Chief Executive Officer of Heritage Malta.

Since then, Heritage Malta embarked into a a number of activities to create awareness in this area, establish general principles in the digitisation process and create synergy between institutions.

Heritage Malta is also seeking sponsors in this area of digitisation which will provide assistance in the creation of digitisation projects and assisting in their implementation and dissemination of information.
