In 2008 the National Museum of Natural History acquired a highly significant collection of Coleoptera (beetles). This collection amounting to over 2,000 specimens was donated by Mr. Henry Borg Barthet of Mellieha. The majority of the specimens in this collection are identified and are all accompanied by their relevant data. A catalogue of the collection is in preparation and will be published later in 2009. This is the second significant entomological collection donated to the NMNH in as many years. In 2007 another collection, that of renowned Maltese Naturalist and Historian Mr. Guido Lanfranco was presented to the Museum. This latter collection covers various Orders of insects. To date two lists those covering the Lepidoptera (butterfly and moths) and the dragonflies (Odonata) have been published.
