The Armoury in Gozo is located in the Citadel, Victoria,
in Triq il-Kwartier San Martin, just opposite the Natural
Science Museum. It was originally built as a grain store,
probably in 1776, since this date is carved on the arched
doorway.
During the British period, it served as a soldiers' mess.
In fact, it also had a stone oven
which dates from this period. This was dismantled when the
building was turned
into an armoury and is now kept in storage.
The building was officially inaugurated as the Armoury in
March, 1984, and now hosts a small selection of armour and
some other items of general interest. It is only open to the
public on request. For further details and to arrange to visit
the Armoury, see Contacting
Museums & Sites.
For museum opening times, see Visiting.
