The CRPMO co-ordinates all projects related to hands-on conservation of artefacts, monuments, sites and buildings that form part of the national collections within the responsibility of Heritage Malta. It also manages conservation-restoration projects of works, sites & buildings belonging to private collections, as well as public and religious institutions outside the remits of Heritage Malta.

By drawing in professional, academic and didactic resources, the CRPMO adopts a multidisciplinary approach in the execution of conservation-restoration projects. It monitors and tracks progress of all projects to ensure that contingencies are catered for, conservation decisions are reached and implemented and deadlines are met.

The CRPMO plays an interface role between the organisation and private owners or curators outside Heritage Malta, as well as with Heritage Malta curatorial staff. Based on condition assessments and treatment proposals drawn up by the conservation sections concerned, it calculates project costs and draws up comprehensive quotations for its clients.

In addition to the mutual dependence between the various sections at the Conservation Division and the CRPMO, where matters of a fiscal and contractual nature are concerned, the latter maintains continual contact with the Organisation's Finance Department.

By supporting the Institute of Conservation and Management of Cultural Heritage (ICMCH), the academic arm of Heritage Malta, the CRPMO provides aid for undergraduate and postgraduate students who may require logistical support or assistance while involved in specific projects relevant to their course and dissertation studies. The CRPMO seeks to be effective in encouraging and promoting research programmes on the projects that Heritage Malta undertakes as well as contributing to the general education campaign that Heritage Malta is duty bound to foster, such as generating in the public at large the need for assuming responsibility of tangible and intangible cultural heritage. It also strives to encourage collaboration with other entities/bodies/NGOs that also have the preservation of cultural heritage at heart, for mutual assistance and support.
