The Documentation
Section is an important part of the multidisciplinary team
at the Conservation Division and employs a team of expert
personnel each proficient in his or her field. They all participate
in the process of documenting buildings, sites and artefacts;
thisinvolves photography, laser scanning, cataloguing, surveying,
drafting and drawing, compiling inventory registries, and
research. It is primarily responsible for:
- providing photographic (in normal, raking and tangential
light, infrared reflectography (IR), ultraviolet light
(UV), X-ray radiography), laser scanning, and AutoCAD
drawing services to conservators coordinating and involved
in conservation-restoration projects, as well as to curatorial
staff and external individuals and bodies
- the archiving of data which are gathered during conservation-restoration
projects, such as photographs, negatives, drawings, surveying
data and other digital data.
- the co-ordination of the Institute of Conservation &
Management of Cultural Heritage (ICMCH) study units related
to documentation.
The Documentation Section has a large and
well-equipped photographic studio, laser scanning equipment
and equipment specific for photogrammetry.
