The Architectural
Conservation Section deals with the conservation of the built
heritage and also includes the care of limestone artefacts
such as statues and fountains both on- and off-site.
The conservation studio is divided into two
areas. The main area is reserved for in-house and off-site
conservation treatment and training practice. These include
the preparation of lime mortars, using both slaked lime and
hydraulic lime, as well as the carrying out of treatments
such as cleaning, consolidation and repair of stone artefacts
temporarily removed from site. The other area is reserved
for stone dressing, sculpture and as a temporary storage for
large pieces such as statues.
This section also carries out multidisciplinary
projects in conjunction with other conservation sections,
including the Paintings & Polychrome Sculpture Conservation
Section, the Objects Conservation Section and the Documentation
Section. It also participates, with the aid of European funding,
in Leonardo da Vinci projects.
